My journey into the art world began in first grade when I won a crayon contest, igniting a lifelong passion for creativity.
Education:
  • BFA in Interior Design, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
Mediums:
  • Crayons, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylics, and oils
After earning my degree, I created watercolor perspectives for designers in Norfolk and Richmond, eventually working with several design firms and running my own small design business. Following my marriage, I transitioned to a stay-at-home mom to be present for my two daughters. During this time, I built a successful pen and ink business, specializing in drawing homes of all sizes for 25 years. Additionally, I participated in Richmond's Arts in the Park for ten years, where I displayed and sold my oil paintings.
As my career progressed, so did the diversity of my subject matter. I expanded from tabletop architectural drawings and pen and ink depictions of homes to plein air oil painting and acrylic animal portraits. I take particular joy in capturing the essence and soul of animals in my art. My approach to painting is driven by enthusiasm, a keen eye for inspiration, and an understanding of the importance of lighting, composition, and color palette—elements that contribute to the “music” of a successful piece, evoking visual excitement in the observer.
Recently, I submitted one of my paintings to an online competition hosted by The Contemporary Art Gallery, and was delighted to receive third place among hundreds of entries. The piece depicted marsh grasses with a rustic rowboat nestled in a canal.
My work has been featured in The Gingerbread Art Gallery in Key West, Florida, and for ten years at Bella Arte' Gallery before it closed. Art remains my passion, and each new piece is both a challenge and a rewarding endeavor that deepens my love for the creative process.
